Christine Coffey : Owner and Creative Director
Christine founded the studio in 2013, bringing over ten years experience designing for a wide range of corporate and institutional clients.
We like to keep things small so we can work with our clients directly and not have to worry about the bottom line affecting the work we do. To facilitate this, we work with a diverse network of like-minded professionals. Depending on a client’s needs, we often collaborate with the following highly experienced and talented team of creators and strategists:
Eric Karnes : Designer
Eric co-founded Karnes Coffey with Christine in 2013 and they worked together on all of the studio’s early projects, including the Richmond Ballet and ZZQ Texas Craft Barbeque. He left the studio in 2018 to pursue poster and typeface design full time, but can still be found drawing custom lettering for some of Karnes Coffey’s identity projects. His work has been recognized by numerous international organizations and publications, including the Type Directors Club, Art Directors Club, Communication Arts, Graphis, and Print Magazine.
Jamie Mahoney : Art Director
Jamie was Vice President / Senior Art Director at The Martin Agency for 15 years with an established reputation in creating campaigns for major national and international accounts. She has led the creative initiative on national and international consumer accounts such as Mercedes-Benz, Chrysler Plymouth, Valvoline, Seiko, Nickelodeon, Timberland, Finlandia Vodka and Coca-Cola USA and developed creative marketing campaigns for cultural and public service accounts that include the Richmond Ballet, the National Salvation Army, and Mothers Against Drunk Driving.
John Mahoney : Copywriter
John was Senior Vice President in the Creative Department of The Martin Agency for 30 years. He has worked on such national brands as Walmart, UPS, and Marriott, and Richmond area accounts including the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts, Richmond Symphony, and the YMCA, and most pertinently. His work has been honored in numerous award shows including the One Show, the New York Art Directors’ Show, the British Design and Art Direction Annual, the Communication Arts Annual, as well as Graphis and Archive Magazines.
Caley Cantrell: Strategic Planner
Caley spent 23 years at The Martin Agency as a Strategic Planner for clients such as The Virginia Lottery, The Steward School, The Specialty Group, Connor’s Heroes, Riverside Outfitters, Clutter Cleaner, Scoot Richmond, Altria, Tricycle Gardens. Currently she is Head of the Strategy track at the VCU Brandcenter. In 2010, she was one of two Brandcenter faculty members asked to lead student teams on a Venture Richmond project – the original goal of which was to get more people to visit downtown Richmond. This project yielded the concept that became the wildly successful RVA campaign.
